Mark Piesanen is a media and entertainment industry executive whose career combines strategic insights into emerging digital media industries with a solid operating background in traditional media organizations. Mark has over 15 years of combined industry experience, including 5 years in strategic consulting and 10 years in television news production. As part of Deloitte’s Media & Entertainment, Strategy & Operations Consulting practice, Mark leads the firm’s multi-disciplinary service offering “New Business Models for Media” which addresses the emerging need for new product development at consumer media companies. Mark also works closely with the firm’s Corporate Finance investment banking practice, helping develop media & entertainment industry merger & acquisition transactions. In prior roles, Mark was a Senior Manager in the Media & Entertainment practices of BearingPoint and Arthur Andersen Business Consulting. At Andersen, he helped introduce a new product offering, leading the Digital Content Solutions practice through its product development and market-entry phases. This worldwide team provided the firm's Media & Entertainment, Telecom, and Fortune 500 corporate clients with strategic planning, operational consulting, and technology implementation services for producing, managing, distributing and licensing digital media content. Mark’s clients included CBS, the General Motors Media Archive, Getty Images, the BBC, Viacom, and Martha Stewart Omnimedia, among others. Mark’s transaction experience includes merger and acquisition advisory, and private equity placement, assisting Andersen Corporate Finance deal teams. As a line executive at several global consultancies, Mark has extensive client and engagement management experience in corporate strategy, product development, market entry strategy, financial analysis, capital budgeting, business planning, and information systems planning. He has worked in the broadcasting & cable programming, cable systems, newspapers & magazines, stock photography, corporate, telecom and real estate sectors, as well as for major media conglomerates. Mark also frequently speaks and writes on media and information industry topics. In his prior career as a journalist and television news producer, Mark was one of the founding producers of The News with Brian Williams on MSNBC, where he helped launch an innovative 24-hour cable and Internet news network. He was a network news and current affairs producer for influential programs at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, including the business program Venture, and the flagship national newscast The National. He started his career as a police reporter for The York Tribune newspaper in Toronto.
