Biography

Joan Gillman has been on the cutting edge of innovation in media, communications and advertising since 1995, when she left politics to join the Internet industry. She most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Time Warner Cable Media from September 2006 to June 2016. In this role, Ms. Gillman headed up one of TWC’s three operating divisions, building a team and business generating more than $1b in annual advertising revenues. During a period of significant change in the media industry, she successfully led her team to diversify the product portfolio, transform the capabilities of the sales organization, expand the political and digital advertising capabilities and restructure the business to put data at the center of strategy and solutions. She first joined TWC as a consultant in January 2004 and as Vice President of Interactive TV and Advanced Advertising in May 2005.

From 1995-1997, she served as Vice President of Marketing for Physicians’ Online, a private Internet Service Provider (ISP) for physicians. She brought her early internet experience to the United Kingdom and the development of digital TV, when she was asked to head up the business development, regulatory and legal teams for British Interactive Broadcasting, the digital and interactive TV joint venture between BSkyB, BT, HSBC and Matsushita. After returning to the U.S. in 2001, Ms. Gillman served as President of Static2358, the interactive TV, games and production subsidiary ofOpenTV.

Prior to making the jump to business in 1995, Mrs. Gillman worked in politics for former U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut, serving as his Legislative Director, State Director, Assistant Press Secretary and Legislative Aide.

Ms. Gillman currently serves on the Board of the Jesuit Volunteer Corp and as its Vice Chairman and on the Board of the David T. Langrock Foundation. She also serves on the Holy Cross Advisory Board and the Advisory Board of SMPA at GWU. She previously served on the Boards of NCC, IAB, VAB, WICT, BlackArrow, LLC and Seawell Networks. In September 2015, she was honored by her Alma Mater, Holy Cross, with the Sanctae Crucis Award. In 2010, she became an Ad Age Woman to Watch and, in 2009, she was named a “Wonder Woman” by Multichannel News and named to the CableFax Magazine Sales Hall of Fame.

She earned a B.A. from The College of the Holy Cross, and an M.A. in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
